Hello everyone
Thanks to those who got in touch after we sent the email about the Greenhouse conference in November. It has been good to catch up with some of you and hear of the ways God is bringing people across your path with whom you are beginning a journey.
We’ve had a few more people contacting us through the Oikos website looking for simple churches in the western suburbs, so if you hear of anything happening in your area, please put them in touch with us.
Three couples are meeting fortnightly on Sunday afternoons and growing in relationship as well as exploring discipleship rather than church.
Several neighbours have connected with Anthony and Ruth since they moved house, and a Sunday morning breakfast is providing time to develop friendships, allowing God to guide conversations and build church organically. Believers meet together on Tuesday evenings for worship including prayer, Bible study, singing and sharing.
We have found The Voice, a modern translation of the Bible published in 2012, to be more effective with the missional group meeting on Friday evenings than the other versions we’ve used in reading aloud previously. Sharing ‘God stories’ when we meet for Family Gathering a couple of times a month, has seen all of the participants more aware of how God has been working in their lives, and looking for him in the events as they unfold each day. This has brought an excitement to the group.
Mission societies are applying principles of simple church discipleship at home as well as abroad. Check out the video about reaching Muslims in New York.
Our denomination is having a workshop “Discipling for impact” at our annual gathering. It seems as if what is working in overseas countries is increasingly being applied in countries where there are many churches. Discovering Jesus’ way of sharing the good news and making disciples who are able to make disciples is reaching many who would not come into a traditional church building.
Please let us know how things are for you. Are you interested in another get together before the end of the year?
Grace and peace
